As we all know IPL started in 2008 & now it’s 2021, it has been 14 good years and our favorite tournament never fails to entertain us in the past years. IPL (Indian Premier League) is one of the most famous cricket tournaments around the world. IPL is administrated by the IPL governing council & BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). IPL is the most favorite cricket tournament among cricket lovers. Indian as well as Overseas players are part of it.

It is the second best-paying league so players are always ready to become a part of this. It also promotes players from the state level who doesn’t get a chance to enter an International team. In short, IPL gave us so many good players throughout the times.

IPL was established in 2008 & having 8 teams currently.  The first season was won by Rajasthan Royals. Total 13 teams were taken part in IPL but 5 teams out of them have discontinued their participation further.

BCCI canceled the contract of Kochi Tuskers Kerala & Deccan Chargers for not fulfilling their commitments. Similarly, Pune Warriors had to end its journey due to disagreement between its owner & BCCI. The current 8 teams taking part in IPL 2021 are:

IPL has one of the finest sources of earning for BCCI. This year in 2021 when BCCI has to call off IPL due to the increasing number of covid cases, BCCI had to bear the loss of 2000 crores. IPL Titles

IPL 2020 winner: Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians, the most strong team in IPL is owned by none other than billionaire Mukesh Ambani. Reliance Industries Limited bought the team for $111.9 million. It makes the team most expensive in IPL. Mumbai won the highest 5 titles of IPL.

In last season, Mumbai defeated Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets and won the award for the second time in a row. DC batted first and score 156 runs and from Mumbai Rohit & De cock gave them a great start with 45 runs in just 4 overs. The opening partnership & a good score of 33 runs by Ishan Kishore make it easy to chase the target.

IPL 2019 Winner: Mumbai Indians

In 2019, Mumbai Indians won the IPL season 12 award &  their 4th title. The final match was between Mumbai Indians & Chennai Super Kings. Mumbai was having a good record of 2-1 in the previous face-offs. The match was hosted by Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad which was not a home ground for either of the teams.

The match was a neck-to-neck match, both of the teams gave their 100% but luck was with Mumbai that time. Rohit’s team won the match just by 1 run.

IPL 2018 Winner: Chennai Super Kings

In 2015, Chennai Super Kings was banned by BCCI for betting controversy. 2018 was a comeback year for Chennai Super Kings & they took the advantage of the opportunity perfectly. In other words, we can say that they came back with a bang.

CSK won the IPL title by chasing down the huge score of 181/2 with 9 balls left. The match was played against SUnrisers Hyderabad & hosted by Wankhede Stadium.

IPL 2017 Winner: Mumbai Indians

This was the third title for MI in the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Mumbai Indians face Rising Pune Supergiants in Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.

The starting wasn’t very good for Mumbai, they only managed to score 129 runs & lost 8 wickets. The bowling played a good role in the winning of the team. MI managed to stop RPS at 128/6 in 20 overs. Rising Pune Supergiants was a replacement for CSK & RR which was banned that year.

IPL 2016 Winner: SunRisers Hyderabad

In 2016, M. Bengaluru hosted a final match between SUnRisers Hyderabad & Royal Challengers Bangalore. SRH scored 208 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Virat Kohli’s team was all set to chase the target but after losing 3 main wickets, the team couldn’t handle the pressure.

The trophy was given in hands to Sun Risers Hyderabad by Royal Challengers Bangalore.

IPL 2015 Winner: Mumbai Indians

Mumbai was facing Chennai Super Kings in the IPL finals for the third time. Mumbai managed to set a huge target of 202 runs for 5 wickets. But CSK couldn’t maintain the magic & scored only 161 runs.CSK lost the match from MI by 41 runs. This was the second time when MI won against CSK in the IPL finals.

IPL 2014 Winner: Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL title the second time that year in the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. Kolkata Knight Riders played against Kings XI Punjab in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Kings XI Punjab scored 199 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. But KKR managed to chase down the score with of help of 94 run innings played by Manish Pandey.

IPL 2013 Winner: Mumbai Indians

This was the first time when MI won the IPl trophy. In Eden Garden, Kolkata, Mumbai faced Chennai for the second time in the finals but the story was different this year.

MI set a low score of 149 runs in front of Dhoni’s team. But they only scored 125 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. That’s how Mumbai won its first IPL title.

IPL 2012 Winner: Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders won the 5th IPL season by defeating Chennai Super Kings. KKR chased the target of 190/3 runs by scoring 192 runs and lost 5 wickets.

Sunil Naraine was declared Player of the Tournament for taking 24 wickets in just 15 innings.

IPL 2011 Winner: Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings won the title 2 times in a row. The final match was hosted by M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai between Chennai Super Kings & Royal Challengers Bangalore.

CSK set a target of 205 runs but RCB presented a poor performance & they only managed to score 148 runs after losing 8 wickets. CSK won by a huge 58 runs.

IPL 2010 Winner: Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings finally lifted the trophy for the first time in the captaincy of M.S. Dhoni. Chennai Super Kings faced Mumbai Indians in D.Y. Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai for IPL Finals.

Chennai Super Kings scored 168 runs for 5 wickets where Mumbai only managed to score 146 runs after losing 9 wickets.

Sachin Tendulkar was awarded by Player of the TOurnament for scoring the highest of 618 runs for that season.\

IPL 2009 Winner: Deccan Chargers

Despite performing very poorly in the last season, Deccan Chargers surprised us all. Deccan Chargers won the IPL title under the captaincy of Adam Gilchrist against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Deccan Chargers scored 143/6 in 20 overs while RCB only managed to score 137 runs & lost the final by 6 runs.

IPL 2008 Winner: Rajasthan Royals

This was the inaugural year for IPL. Despite having fewer big players, RR got a chance to lift the trophy under the captaincy of Shain Warne, who was both coach & captain of the team.

Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings by 3 wickets chasing the target of 163/5.

IPL 2021 is the most exciting tournament for cricket fans who were coping with the rough times of covid.
