With this victory, Punjab’s team has reached the third position with 12 points from six games in nine games. This is the sixth defeat in the Royals’ nine games and the team is running at number six with six points and its knockout is becoming increasingly difficult.
Chasing Rajasthan Royals’ target of 153 runs, Punjab scored an easy victory in Rahul’s 54 balls with three sixes and seven fours, and 84 not out, the best IPL innings of 184 over, in 15.4 runs in four wickets. Rahul also made an unbroken partnership of 68 runs for the fifth wicket with 50 and Marcus Steinis (23 not out from 16 balls, two fours, one six) for the third wicket with Karun Nair (31).
Earlier, the team of Rajasthan Royals could score only 152 runs on nine wickets in front of Mujib ur Rahim (three wickets for 27 runs) and Andrew Ti (two wickets for 24 runs). Left-arm spinner Akshar Patel (one wicket away 21) and off-spinner and captain Ravichandran Ashwin (one wicket for 30 runs) also bowled effectively. Opener Joyce Butler top scored with 51 runs from Royals. Apart from them, Sanju Samson (28) and Shreyas Gopal (24) are able to cross the 20-run mark.
Punjab did not start well
The Punjab team’s start to chase the target was poor and the team could only manage 34 runs for two wickets in Power Play. Opener Lokesh Rahul scored three fours in the over to Krishnappa Gautam But Joe Fraser caught Chris Gayle (08) at Samson’s hands at point. In the next over of Ben Stokes, Mayank Agarwal (02) also caught Rahul Tripathi at long leg, which helped the team score 29 runs on two wickets. Jos Buttler fined half-century
Ben Stokes failed once more and after scoring just 12 runs, Mujib’s ball returned to the pavilion.
